It comes from the soft undercoat of a cashmere goat — and it takes the fibres from roughly three goats to make a single scarf. Every Slate + Salt cashmere scarf is handloomed by blind, deaf, or disabled weavers based in Pokhara, Nepal. We partner with a local non-profit that equips these artisans with the tools, training, and support they need to build independent lives through weaving. In Nepal, people with disabilities often face discrimination and have very limited access to employment. Weaving gives them not just income, but dignity, confidence, and a skill that lasts a lifetime. The organisation also distributes white canes, hearing aids, and wheelchairs, provides food and medicine to aged-care homes, and delivers relief to communities affected by earthquakes and landslides.
