  • Step 2 — Choose the right time: Sow in spring once soil temperatures reach around 55°F (late April to early May in the upper Midwest). You can also sow in summer, fall, or dormant-seed in late fall over frozen ground or fresh snow on a calm day.
  • Step 3 — Avoid hot, dry windows: Don't sow just before a hot, dry spell — moisture during germination is essential.
  • Step 4 — Water consistently: Keep the soil from drying out completely during the germination period. Water regularly through any dry spells in the first season.
  • Step 5 — Mow during establishment: During the first growing season, mow regularly at 2–4 inches to help all varieties mature evenly.
  • Step 6 — Annual light mow: A few times each year, mow at your highest setting to let light and air reach the soil surface, preventing rot and keeping the mix balanced.

Our Roots
Flawn Seed Kits is a small, family-run business based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Founded by horticulturist and lawn care expert Anthony Nied, our mission is to improve quality of life and environmental health by eliminating harmful lawn chemicals and bringing pollinators back to our yards.

Anthony’s journey started in 2010, working in conventional lawn care. After realizing the dangers of daily exposure to toxic pesticides, he knew he had to make a change. “When I couldn’t hug my kids after work because I was covered in chemicals, I knew there had to be a better way,” he recalls.

That better way became Safe & Simple Organic Lawns, focused on soil health and organic practices. In 2018, Anthony began experimenting with clover and native flowers to naturally enrich lawns. The results were undeniable: healthier lawns, less maintenance, and a buzzing return of butterflies and bees.

Shipping & Delivery

Orders are usually dispatched within 2-3 business days. 

The shipping rate is calculated and displayed at checkout. Free shipping is available for orders over $49.00 for Shakers members of our reward program, and with no minimum, for Makers members (We can't offer free shipping when the lowest shipping cost exceeds $10).

Shipment confirmation and order tracking:
Once your order is fulfilled, you receive a tracking number to follow your package by email. Allow 24-48 hours for the carrier to update the tracking number in its system.

We might ship your order in more than 1 package. In that case, you receive a tracking number for each shipment.
