What To Expect When Using Flawn Seed:Our seeds are designed to be over-seeded into existing grass to create a balanced half-grass, half-flower lawn. Germination typically occurs in 2-3 weeks with regular watering, with plants remaining small for the first couple of months. Once established, your Flawn will bloom beautifully through summer and fall, offering a continuous nectar and pollen source. For best results, avoid seeding before hot/dry periods and water regularly post-seeding and during dry spells. Seeding can occur in spring (after thaw, soil ~55°F) or late fall/winter (over frozen ground or fresh snow). If starting with bare soil, add 2-4 lbs of fine fescue grass seed per 1,000 sq ft, or increase our seeding rates for a clover-dominant lawn.
How to Seed Your Flawn:
Prepare: Mow your lawn very short (0.5-1"). Rake lightly to loosen soil.
Spread: Shake the jar, waving your arm to cover a six-foot path as you walk.
Water: Water lightly but frequently, ensuring soil and seedlings remain moist without runoff.
Maintaining a Flawn:
Initial Mowing: Continue to mow at 2-3" for the first year until all varieties are established, especially to prevent grass from overtaking new seedlings.
Established Flawn: Once established, you can choose your desired look: mowing higher and less often promotes more flowers and a wilder appearance; mowing shorter and more often results in a more traditional lawn look with fewer blooms.
Pesticide-Free: Do not use pesticide weed or insect killers. Hand-weed if necessary.
Fertilizer: White clover naturally fixes nitrogen, so minimal, if any, additional fertilizer is needed once established. An organic starter fertilizer is recommended if seeding grass.

Our Roots
Flawn Seed Kits is a small, family-run business based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Founded by horticulturist and lawn care expert Anthony Nied, our mission is to improve quality of life and environmental health by eliminating harmful lawn chemicals and bringing pollinators back to our yards.
Anthony’s journey started in 2010, working in conventional lawn care. After realizing the dangers of daily exposure to toxic pesticides, he knew he had to make a change. “When I couldn’t hug my kids after work because I was covered in chemicals, I knew there had to be a better way,” he recalls.
That better way became Safe & Simple Organic Lawns, focused on soil health and organic practices. In 2018, Anthony began experimenting with clover and native flowers to naturally enrich lawns. The results were undeniable: healthier lawns, less maintenance, and a buzzing return of butterflies and bees.
