PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

🌿 Make your garden a sanctuary for monarchs, queen butterflies, and hummingbirds — all at once. Showy Milkweed is one of North America's most beautiful and garden-friendly native wildflowers, beloved for its striking pinkish-purple crown-like blooms, sweet fragrance, and slower, more manageable spread compared to Common Milkweed. These non-GMO Asclepias speciosa seeds arrive in a fully compostable kraft pouch, ready to transform any sunny garden, prairie patch, or open landscape into a thriving pollinator habitat. Drought-tolerant, virtually zero maintenance, and genuinely impactful for threatened monarch populations — this is one of the most rewarding things you can grow. 🎁 And for the gardener, nature lover, or conservation-minded friend in your life, it makes a truly meaningful and lasting gift.

✨ FEATURES

  • 🌱 Non-GMO certified seeds: Pure, genuine Asclepias speciosa with no genetic modification — safe for pollinators, wildlife, and the broader ecosystem.
  • ♻️ Compostable kraft pouch packaging: Fully compostable, eco-friendly packaging that leaves absolutely no waste behind.
  • 🇺🇸 Native North American wildflower: Naturally adapted to mid-western and western US conditions, primarily native to regions west of the Mississippi River.
  • 🌸 Stunning crown-like blooms: Distinctive pinkish-purple flowers with elongated, tapered petals covered in fine hairs — often compared to tiny royal crowns in appearance.
  • 🌺 Long-lasting, fragrant flowering: Summer blooms provide an extended, reliable nectar source for pollinators throughout the warmest growing months.
  • 🐢 Slower, more manageable spread: Less aggressive than Common Milkweed, making it an ideal choice for home gardens where controlled, beautiful growth is preferred.
  • ☀️ Thrives in full sun and dry conditions: Highly adaptable to a wide variety of soil types from medium to dry — perfect for sunny, low-water landscapes.
  • 🗺️ USDA Hardiness Zones 3–9: Exceptionally wide adaptability across most of the continental United States.
  • 💪 Zero maintenance once established: Deep-rooted, drought-tolerant, and naturally self-sustaining season after season.

⚠️ IMPORTANT SEEDING TIP

These seeds are extremely small and difficult to spread evenly by hand. Hand application often results in clumping and over-seeding. For best and most even results, pair with an Easy Spread Shaker or Easy Spread Bulk Container and apply using a handheld spreader.

🌟 BENEFITS

  • 🦋 Essential host plant for monarch and queen butterflies: Like all Asclepias species, Showy Milkweed serves as a critical host plant for monarch and queen butterfly caterpillars — planting it directly supports two threatened butterfly species at once.
  • 🐦 Attracts hummingbirds and diverse pollinators: The fragrant, nectar-rich blooms draw hummingbirds, native bees, and numerous butterfly species, turning any sunny space into a living, buzzing ecosystem.
  • 🏡 More garden-friendly than Common Milkweed: Its slower, less aggressive spread makes it far easier to manage in home gardens, borders, and defined planting areas without taking over.
  • 🌵 Exceptional drought tolerance: Once established, Showy Milkweed thrives in dry to medium soils with no supplemental watering — ideal for water-conscious and low-maintenance gardeners.
  • 🌍 Supports ecological restoration: Widely found in prairies, savannas, and open landscapes, planting Showy Milkweed helps restore the native plant communities that North American pollinators depend on.
  • 🌼 Pairs beautifully with meadow companions: Grows naturally alongside yarrow, alyssum, and medium red clover for a rich, diverse, and wildlife-friendly flowering landscape.
  • 🎁 A gift that grows for years: Thoughtful, purposeful, and genuinely impactful — a standout gift for gardeners, butterfly enthusiasts, conservationists, and nature lovers of every kind.

🌱 HOW TO PLANT

📅 When to seed: Sow outdoors in fall to over-winter naturally — seeds will germinate on their own come spring. Alternatively, artificially stratify seeds for 30 days in the refrigerator before planting in spring. Sow no deeper than 1/4 inch in a relatively weed-free location.

🏡 Site preparation: Choose a location with room to expand, as milkweed spreads by seed and rhizomes. Select a full sun location and prepare a relatively weed-free surface before seeding. Note that Showy Milkweed does not perform well in shaded areas.

💧 Watering: No watering needed for fall seeding. For spring seeding after stratification, water lightly after sowing and prevent the soil from completely drying out for the first 1–2 weeks. Water as needed if seedlings show signs of wilting.

🚫 Weed control: Remove excessive weeds by hand or natural methods before and after seeding as needed. Do not apply broadcast weed killers — they will kill your milkweed plants.

⚠️ Safety note: As with all milkweed species, Showy Milkweed foliage is toxic if ingested. It is generally considered less toxic than some other Asclepias species, but keep this in mind when planting in areas accessed by children or pets.

🦋 Plant one seed. Protect a monarch. Order your Showy Milkweed Seed Pouch today and grow one of the most beautiful and ecologically important native wildflowers in North America — right in your own backyard. 🌿
