Your feet have been cold long enough. Pick up a pair of Superwarm Heavy Alpaca Socks today and feel the difference that real alpaca warmth makes.

We have been selling alpaca products since 2002 and learned that a warm, soft, strong, comfortable and MACHINE WASHABLE alpaca sock has been the most frequent customer requested item.

These socks are a blend of excellent quality Alpaca and Microfiber (50%/50% blend) to offer the best of warmth, durability, wash-ability and comfort.

After milling the final mix of the socks is:

44% Alpaca, 44% Microfiber, 10% Nylon, 2% Lycra

Why this blend and not 100% alpaca? The characteristics of these socks are the results of years of experience and lots of customer feedback. First, and pretty important is the actual construction of the socks. They are heavily knit, with a strong outer construction and deep pile of terry loops which yields thickness, softness, breathability and of course fantastic comfort and warmth. With their nylon frame, the alpaca is held securely for active use and many washings. The lycra helps the socks gently stay in place without constriction.

Why not 80-100% alpaca?

We do sell various socks with that content, but truly, its a waste of expensive alpaca that does not add to the qualities of the socks if durability and function is desired. The mill we use for these (see more below) asserted to us many years ago (around 2006) that using more than 35%-45% alpaca is not really adding anything, except cost, to this kind of sock. So we start with a 50/50% yarn blend of alpaca and microfiber then build the socks around a nylon frame and add a little lycra.

What is Microfiber?

It is a new-ish fiber used in sport socks and clothing. Microfiber fabric is often used for athletic wear, such as cycling jerseys, because the microfiber material wicks moisture (sweat) away from the body, keeping the wearer cool and dry. Microfiber is also very elastic, making it suitable for undergarments. Microfiber has proven to blend very well with and compliment alpaca in socks. It allows for warmth while still offering durability, WASHABILITY and comfort. Microfiber goes perfectly with alpaca.

These Alpaca Socks are made in the USA by a 100 year old hosiery company in Pennsylvania. Also on our website along with our original "Superwarm" socks are the OutdoorAdventure and SlipperBootie socks. All three styles use the same very high quality blend alpaca yarn but are knit differently using different amounts of yarn to provide differing characteristics which our customers have requested.
