Millions of plastic bottles pollute our oceans every year, two standard bottles are a daily recommended water intake. We're committed to cleaning them up.
About HowBottle
**HowBottle: Turning Ocean Waste into Everyday Style**
Founded in 2017 by three women entrepreneurs, HowBottle began as a small project inspired by a simple, urgent question: what if the plastic bottles polluting our oceans could become something worth keeping? What started as a modest venture turned into a mission-driven, women-owned brand that has since upcycled more than 600,000 plastic bottles into bags, apparel, and everyday essentials.
The brand's approach centers on transparency. Every product HowBottle sells discloses exactly how many bottles went into making it, and the company has gone even further with technology: HowBottle has embedded Dow's DNA Marker technology into its recycled materials, giving each product an invisible, verifiable signature that can be audited by TÜV-certified labs — a way of proving sustainability claims rather than just stating them.
Materially, HowBottle relies on a closed-loop system that converts post-consumer plastic into high-performance yarn through a vertically integrated process, with products meeting GRS and OEKO-TEX safety standards while being BPA and PFC-free. The brand has also expanded its sourcing to include discarded fishing nets alongside plastic bottles, and the company holds B Corp certification, having been built specifically to address plastic pollution by turning single-use waste into durable, useful products.
The brand hasn't been without challenges. Despite rapid early growth, HowBottle found itself uncertain during the pandemic, as focus shifted toward health rather than sustainable consumption — a moment the founders navigated by re-engaging their community through initiatives like "Stop Plastic Day," rewarding customers for eco-friendly behavior.
In May 2025, the brand officially launched in the U.S., debuting a collection of bags, hats, sunglasses, and daily essentials aimed at people who want to live sustainably without paying a "green premium."
