🌺 Artisan Story
These scarves are made by the Vivaz Women's Cooperative in San Luis Los Ranchos, El Salvador. Through international sales, the women gain financial independence and a better quality of life for their families — and help keep a remarkable craft tradition alive.
The indigo (or "añil") dye they use is native to the region. The plant is harvested, submerged in water to ferment, and the deep-blue pigment that settles at the bottom is used to colour the fabric. It's a slow, labour-intensive process — and the rich colour it produces is unlike anything synthetic dyes can replicate.
Until the 1800s, indigo was the only source of blue dye in the world, making El Salvador a major global exporter. When synthetic dyes arrived, that industry collapsed. Today, co-operatives like Vivaz are helping bring it back.

Orders are usually dispatched within 2-3 business days.
The shipping rate is calculated and displayed at checkout. Free shipping is available for orders over $49.00 for Shakers members of our reward program, and with no minimum, for Makers members (We can't offer free shipping when the lowest shipping cost exceeds $10).
Shipment confirmation and order tracking:
Once your order is fulfilled, you receive a tracking number to follow your package by email. Allow 24-48 hours for the carrier to update the tracking number in its system.
