This hand-woven striped scarf is crafted by skilled artisans in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, using 100% cotton and a centuries-old weaving tradition. Woven on a black warp that deepens the earthy tones, it's a generous unisex size that works just as well for men as it does for women — and it makes a thoughtful, meaningful gift for anyone who appreciates beautifully made things.

✨ Features

  • 🧵 Hand-woven on a black warp: The dark warp thread brings out rich, earthy stripe colours with real depth and warmth.
  • 🌿 100% cotton with eco-conscious dyes: Coloured using low-impact, AZO-free, REACH certified reactive dyes — kind to skin and the environment.
  • 📏 Generous unisex sizing: Measures 73" L x 16" W, making it versatile enough to wear as a scarf, wrap, or lightweight shawl.
  • 🤲 Eyelash fringe edges: Finished with delicate fringed ends for a classic, handcrafted touch.
  • 🌍 Ethically handmade in Ethiopia: Every piece is made by hand from thread-spinning to final weave, supporting fair, sustainable livelihoods for artisans.
  • 🎨 One-of-a-kind by nature: Slight variations in each piece are part of what makes every scarf a unique work of art — no two are exactly the same.

💛 Benefits

  • Lightweight enough for year-round wear, yet substantial enough to add warmth on cooler days.
  • A unisex design means it genuinely suits everyone — ideal as a gift for him, for her, or for yourself.
  • Buying this scarf directly supports a network of Ethiopian weavers and the women who hand-spin the cotton thread in their homes.
  • Free from harmful dyes, so it's gentle against sensitive skin.
  • The slight handmade variations mean the person wearing it has something truly individual — not a mass-produced copy.

🏺 The Story Behind the Scarf

The Addis Ababa artisan group behind this scarf has preserved Ethiopia's ancient hand-weaving traditions while creating ethical, sustainable work opportunities for local craftspeople. The cotton thread is hand-spun by women across rural communities — a skill passed from mother to daughter — and then woven on traditional hand looms by master weavers who have inherited their craft from their fathers. From spinning to finishing, every step is done entirely by hand. A single weaver produces just one to three scarves per day, depending on the complexity of the pattern. That's the care and time woven into every piece.

🧺 Care Instructions

  • Machine wash in cold water
  • Hang dry
  • Iron as needed
  • Do not bleach

About SLATE + SALT

Slate + Salt is a socially conscious lifestyle brand offering a curated collection of modern, one-of-a-kind pieces handcrafted by artisans around the world. Their collections include jewelry, accessories, textiles, and decorative objects — all created using traditional techniques and fair trade practices.

Their mission is simple and powerful: to connect modern design with ancient craftsmanship, while supporting dignified work opportunities in communities facing extreme poverty.

Slate + Salt works closely with small social enterprises and Fair Trade cooperatives to ensure that every product supports ethical production, fair wages, and long-term economic empowerment — especially for women artisans.

Every item has a story.

Behind each piece is a person, a family, and a community. By choosing ethically produced goods, you help artisans remain in their villages, support their families, educate their children, and preserve cultural traditions that might otherwise disappear.

Because all products are handmade and often hand-dyed, each piece is naturally unique. Slight variations are part of their beauty — a reminder that these are not mass-produced objects, but human creations made with care.

Slate + Salt was founded by an avid traveler who fell in love with the people, cultures, and craftsmanship she encountered across developing countries. Through deep relationships with artisan groups and Fair Trade partners, the brand brings meaningful, ever-evolving collections to a global community that values beauty with purpose.

At Clozist, we are proud to feature Slate + Salt because their work reflects what we believe in: products that are beautiful, ethical, meaningful — and that create positive impact through everyday choices.
